Samhain Night: The Magic of the Wish

Tonight, the world holds its breath.
Between one heartbeat and the next, the veil shimmers --
and the living and the dead walk closer than ever before.
The air hums with candle flame and memory,
with the scent of smoke, apples,
and something ancient stirring in the dark.

The card that revealed itself for this sacred night is Wish --
from the Earthly Souls & Spirits Oracle by Sarah Foss Robinson and Terry Foss.
It feels as though it was meant to rise now,
guided by Spirit,
carried through the cards by those who once walked beside us.

In its image, a witch sits beneath a raven-lit sky,
the moon cradled softly in her hands.
She does not clutch it — she listens.
She trusts.
She knows that magic is not found in demand,
but in surrender.
The ravens, black-winged and watchful,
circle like keepers of old promises,
reminding us that every wish spoken into the dark
finds its way home.

So tonight, whisper your wish into the candlelight.
Let it drift through the smoke and shadow,
past the pumpkins glowing like sentinels on the porch,
into the waiting arms of your ancestors.
Speak it not with trepidation,
but with a deep inner knowing that they hear you.

On this first Monday of June, I thought a special card pull would be lovely.

OFFERING INCENSE

Present Moment Wonderful Moment --Thich Nhat Hanah

In gratitude, we offer this incense to all buddhas and bodhisattvas throughout space and time.
May it be fragrant as Earth herself, reflecting our wholehearted awareness, and the fruit of understanding, slowly ripening.

In Vietnamese Zen temples, we say this gatha silently as we offer incense alone, or aloud when we conduct ceremonies with others.
As we say it, we imagine fragrant smoke rising in the air, becoming a cloud of five colors.
This represents the offering to all Buddhas throughout space and time, of the 5-fold fragrance: precepts, concentration, understanding, liberation, and insight.
We call it the "fragrance of the heart," a delight that is available to us every day.
Although not for sale in stores.
