Not My Collector came from that — a satirical series inspired by real things said to me and other artists. The critics are fake, but the words are real.

If they don’t get it, I’m probably on to something.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve heard someone say about art?

I’m an artist, and a worrier. That’s how the Doubt Creature started. I’ve now painted two more based on anonymous submissions. In the new ones, I cover the doubt with stars or butterflies. Got a doubt to share? Add it to the Vault https://www.rfr.bz/bb645ce Might end up in my next piece.

It’s about value, belief, and backing yourself.

The Doubt creature showed up in my paintings years ago. Back then, I just painted it as it was.

This is the first time I’ve tried to quieten it with butterflies. A symbol of freedom.

They don’t erase the Doubt, but they soften it to a whisper.

I asked what to cover the Doubt with. You chose butterflies.

I tried them. Then stars. The stars felt better.

Not because of what they were, but how I painted them - loose, imperfect, free.

So I changed the butterflies too.

Now they breathe. Now it feels right.

The butterflies symbolise freedom from the doubt.
They don’t completely cover the Doubt creature, but they soften it to a quiet whisper.
Just enough so you can kick its arse.
