The plant Schizocodon soldanelloides is a delicate, low-growing plant with soft, rounded leaves and bell-shaped, fringed flowers. Often found in cool, mountainous regions, often in East Asia.

The yew (Taxus baccata), known as the “tree of death,” is a dense, evergreen tree with a thick trunk. Its leaves contain toxic alkaloids called taxines, which can be fatal to livestock and humans if ingested. The tree also produces bright red berries.

Today at the Botanic Garden in Edinburgh, I learned something new.The dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) is a fascinating tree because it’s both a conifer and deciduous. The dawn redwood breaks the mold—it’s a conifer that sheds its leaves annually, making it pretty unique!
