Another week off due to snow and frigid temperatures. At least there’s plenty of knitting! ❄️

Been on a bit of a hat kick lately as my “ferrying kids around to activities and waiting, waiting, waiting” knitting. I’ve been knitting this same hat over and over for gifts and love this latest version for one of my daughter’s friend’s mom. With DK held doubled,

Inspired by Diamond Beach in southeast Iceland—where iceberg “diamonds” from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon are sculpted by the sea—the Diamond Beach Cowl with applied gradient beads echo their crystalline forms in this new cowl that glimmers and sparkles like the shore itself.

I enjoyed making that other little bird bandsaw box so much I made another for a baby gift! This one is two layers of ambrosia maple and one of Peruvian walnut, and was started before the holidays.

When your yarn is so bright, mindless nighttime knitting while waiting for kid pick up is no problem!

While things here have been quiet, it’s not for lack of crafting! Working on two books at once (which I always swear I won’t do again, yet it seems to be my jam) means I can’t post anything to do with those, but I am trying to get the background filled in on this birthday present!🎁

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Whew! Down to the wire with this bandsaw box! It’s been too cold to be out in the shop, but I finally got out there yesterday to wrap this one up. Made out of Peruvian walnut and poplar, this is for my oldest nephew.

Another quick make to end the year. My mom used to wear sparkly Christmas tree pins and I always wanted one of my own, so I whipped this one up from a little kit. The randomness of the bead placement is an interesting switch from the precision of knitting. Sparkle on! 🎄

A hat for a friend can be more than just a hat. It can be warmth carried across distance, a quiet reminder that someone is thinking of you. My neighbor is from Ukraine. She returns again and again to help—a mother of three, steady, brave, endlessly giving.

Steek, steek, steek, all day long. Steek, steek, steek, while I sing my song! 🎶 #steek

We’ve lived in Washington DC and now Northern VA for 15 years. Every holiday season we talk about participating in Wreaths Across America and laying wreaths in Arlington National Cemetery.

Introducing the Fizz Pop Cowl! This time of year knitters are inundated with minis! Designed to be made with 10 minis and a skein of fingering, this is ode to fizzy drinks, hot toddy’s, and fancy festive beverages.

The third bandsaw box for one of my nieces is complete! Made of Peruvian walnut and hickory, this one was fun to make. I made another with inverted colors that I’m hoping to finish up. It’s been downright glacial in the woodshop, so I haven’t been able to be out there for very long. Onwards! 🎄

We stayed at a haunted Air BNB earlier this year (that was not mentioned in the listing, but it totally was haunted) and while exploring the LYS in town, my daughter picked out some rainbow yarn from @createyarnworks, aptly called “unicorn vomit.”

When the world outside turns cold and white, there’s nothing better than bundling up in something handmade. Inspired by cozy snow days with noses pressed to frosty windows, paper snowflakes, the hush of freshly falling snow, & the laughter of playing outside until your cheeks glow,

Another bandsaw box complete! This one is Virginia cherry & ambrosia maple with starfish knobs. This one may be my favorite from this batch, but, I’d much rather give them away in the hopes they’ll be treasured for a long time, stuffed with secret treasures, & enjoyed. Back to sanding the others!

One of the bandsaw boxes I’ve made for the gaggle of nieces and nephews this holiday season is complete. This one is made of ambrosia maple and walnut and is particularly jaunty. I flocked the insides of the drawers and used hardware I already had. Hope he likes it!

Made myself a new little beaded holiday pin. Who says all hats have to be knit? ❄️

Originally featured in November 2024’s issue of Farm & Fiber, I’m delighted to bring the On The Farm Cowl to all!

An ode to sheep, this cowl is fully charted and worked in @brownsheepco 100% wool Prairie Spun DK.

Still a ways to go, but pretty happy with how these bandsaw boxes are turning out! Anyone else sprinting towards the finish with their handmade holiday gifts for family? 42 days until Christmas… 🤪🤪🤪
