Welcome new followers, thought would be a good time to do a little thread about the site.

Every Monday there is a Tampa City Council/CRA meeting I do a preview of the agenda highlighting what Council will be voting on that week. Also available via email.

This Week 5-1-25
Council picks a new Chair, a look at the 4th amendment to the contract for Hope Cottages and an explainer on the $40 million NAPA parts supply contract.

This week's preview is up. Starting to feel a little lost in doing these and questioning where to go with it.

A Year of Agendas
A little bit of how Tampa Monitor came to be, what's been accomplished in the last year and what comes next.

City Council is holding a special call workshop this afternoon to discuss the Charter Review Commission and the city's YouTube page is streaming "live" an ARC meeting from last year.

19 was removed from the agenda "because it was a duplicate." But it wasn't a dupe.
I'm starting to think item 19 was a mistake. Item 26 is conspicuously similar (some budget items appear in both) and includes a summary sheet. 19 doesn't. The big thing in 19 is that it seems like the final death knell for the Community Land Trust, wiping the $50 million budgeted off the books.
This week's single regular meeting agenda has been published.

Tampa City Council member @lynnhurtak.com was awarded the 2025 HART Transit Champion Award for her work with Route 1.

Council members Viera and Clendenin from the HART Board had very kind things to say.

Also wanted to put some context to the turnout for the special call election.

Let’s Talk Turnout
Turnout for the 2025 District 5 special call election was typical for City of Tampa municipal elections with only 43 less votes than 2023 election.

The tough part of trying to review the agenda between release on Friday evening and Monday morning is not being able to ask questions. Not that my questions are always answered, but not like I can expect staff to be available over the weekend.

Not sure who or what triggered new subscribers today but thank you!

Normally when council has a workshop they hold new business until after the evening agenda. Obviously Clendenin wanted to send his message at 12:30pm where he would get the most reaction.
October 30, 2025 at 6:11 PM
That was a helluva final discussion at Tampa City Council. Chair Clendenin talking directly at the administration and mayor through the camera complaining about the communications department not giving credit to council culminating with Carlson threatening to sue the mayor if she slanders him again.

Young won all but three precincts in the race, according to @tampamonitor.com with her strongest support coming from pockets of Tampa Heights, West Tampa, East Ybor, Seminole Heights, and the Riverbend area.
October 29, 2025 at 8:11 PM
My original "model" had the split 60/40 but I didn't think she'd win by more than 5% so scaled it back. Was I ever wrong. Scott only won 3 precincts and Young won by 21 points.

Playing around with election result data and used the Young/DeGeorge/Dudney percentages vs Scott with the remaining votes split 55/45 for Young. (DeGeorge and Dudney endorsed Young). It's not scientific but if Young wins, this is what the map might look like.

Really productive day updating the maps on the site. Data and new feature: parcel outlines. Now when you click a location on the map, the parcel outline shows, which helps with rezoning applications to better understand the lot.

Also, added future land use applications to the map for agendas.

Creative Loafing endorses Naya Young ahead of early voting starting tomorrow.

"Both candidates would bring care and attention to a seat that’s been vacant for far too long, but Young offers a chance to write a new chapter instead of living in the past."
It’s time to elect Naya Young to Tampa City Council
Tampa voters will select their District 5 city councilperson this month, and Naya Young is best fit for the job.
