in all likelihood this was just godot's animation tree bugging out as usual. it's extremely temperamental and just breaks out of nowhere even if it hasn't been touched in hours.

as superstition I leave those print_debugs in sometimes just to sate the code

I love when I'm debugging something in godot and all I'm doing to the code is adding print_debugs and after an hour of not identifying the issue, it just solves itself with no actual input.

one of the most backwards, sabotaging instincts in purportedly progressive spaces is the desire to find a random, powerless individual who many can agree is weird in an undesirable way and make them into a problem to be fixed, because they're easily harmed unlike the powerful villains of our world
