In Norse mythology, the robin was considered a "storm-cloud bird" and was sacred to Thor, the god of thunder. Its association was due to the robin's territorial nature, especially defending its territory relentlessly, which was seen as similar to the power of lightning and storms.

The wild man or Woodwose likely merged with the imagery of the Green Man to create a powerful symbol of nature and rebirth. The Woodwose can be seen as the more primal, physical version of the Green Man, while the Green Man is more symbolic.
