Honoring all who served this Veterans Day. Proud to have been one of a few women paratroopers in the U.S. Army and to continue serving today as CEO of SCFG. Different mission, same purpose: to serve and uplift others. #VeteransDay #WomenVeterans #Paratrooper #StillServing #SCFG

When I started at SCFG, I met Warriors whose pain was invisible, often dismissed or misunderstood. That’s what inspired the Sickle Cell Sanctuary; a space that heals the whole person through care, wellness, and compassion. Purpose can start with pain and grow into healing. ✨

I appreciated this piece on what keeps mission-driven work sustainable: not just passion, but structure. At SCFG, I’ve learned that donations alone can’t carry a mission. Passion fuels the start, but structure keeps it standing and turns good intentions into lasting impact.
Beyond donations: Designing strategic infrastructure for mission-driven impact
Philanthropy is changing. For midsized nonprofits navigating postpandemic uncertainty, the traditional model of one-time grants and year-end appeals is no longer enough.

A recent Chronicle of Philanthropy article explored “participatory grantmaking,” where communities help guide funding decisions. Collaboration builds clarity and trust on both sides. That’s how I lead and work at SCFG, by creating systems that serve people, not processes.

The Spark Fund and the Next Gen Grantmakers Initiative are among several philanthropies backing participatory grant-making efforts.

Fast Company talked about nonprofits and businesses working together for real impact. Couldn’t agree more. At the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, purpose-led partnerships have opened doors we couldn’t have unlocked alone. 💜

As CEO of SCFG, I believe access isn’t a slogan, it’s a system. From mobile healthcare to holistic healing, provider training, and youth programs, every program we lead meets Warriors where they are and treats the whole person, not just the disease. Real equity means serving everyone.
