Eddie is incapable of punishing Steve’s brattiness via withholding sex, but I do think he’d try wearing a condom and telling him he’s not putting a baby in him for once— which was basically the equivalent to saying “I don’t love you anymore” to Steve and the ensuing panic just upset them both.
