This really scary and important event was coming up, so it pushed me (54M) to tell my girlfriend (51F) that there were "such years between us," and that I didn't want to heap her with the "burden" of having a relationship with me. My girlfriend just said that I was overthinking things, but I'm so much older than her that I'm afraid that she will outlive me and that she'll be sad about my death forever! When she told me that she knew what she was getting into, I blurted out, "At your age?" She didn't take that very well. Anyway, my girlfriend is really mad at me now and not talking to me at the moment. What should I do? AITA for just stating a fact? 215 upvotes and 24 comments

Happy. About that. He's a bit cranky even.
