RIP Davey Johnson

What a great manager. The 1986 Mets are my most-hated team, but damn they were good.

Johnson as a manager reminded me of me as a manager. The people who worked fo him raelly liked him and did well, but he did not get along well with upper management.

I am a firm believer of voting for the outcome in an election that prevents the most loathsome candidate from winning. In a general election, that may mean voting for a candidate in a major political party over a 3rd party candidate I like better but has no hope. 1/2

This is the Texas I love. I ate at Chuy’s in Austin tonight, and I saw a mixed-race couple, a family that looked maybe Filipino, some people that looked Mexican, and a South Asian family where the father was wearing a turban, all thoroughly enjoying their food.

Advice about work-personal data separation:

Never never never store any personal data in your corporate email/google drive/password managers. Never put personal projects on your work computers. 1/

This year, as a 60-turning-61 white man, I am going to highlight African Americans that have had some kind of influence in my life. Some are famous, some are friends, and others are just people.

“But that’s illegal!”

It doesn’t matter. He is challenging anybody to hold him to account. He knows that most can’t. He knows the rest won’t.

Today is the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Mac. I had already decided to switch to be a programmer the previous summer, but this computer completely captured my interest. I somehow stumbled into a career writing software for Apple hardware a few years later. 1/

Well, we had a bit of a scare last night.

Kid had run a successful D&D session last night, and all of their friends left and drove away with all of the their cars. 1/

Another Greg Wilson story.

He was a member of Mingo Fishtrap for many years. When he left the band for personal reasons, Ponder East (who had subbed in Jumpstart Music a few times) called me, and said he thought I might be a good replacement bari player for Greg, and encouraged me to call Greg. 1/

RIP Greg Wilson

I had had a couple of gigs with Jumpstart Music and got a sub gig with some big band out of that. But Greg was in the first gig in Austin that I met a lot of the heavies on, the 50th Anniversary Gala for the Zilker Hillside Theater. 1/
