Be careful in who you choose to allow to hypnotize you! Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad actors in the community and just because someone is popular or well known, doesn't mean they are a safe choice.
Trust your instincts if someone doesn't seem right to you and ask around if you aren't sure!

Make sure you know your own limits!
It sounds so simple, but really train to articulate them and be mindful of them! Knowing and being sure of your limits is an important safety mechanism in your brain to resist unwanted suggestions and triggers

There was an incident many years ago, where someone manipulative and abusive had many hypnosubs, myself included
I was able to get out before things got even worse, but I'm sure it still affects me
This might be part of why I'm so cautious and struggle to open up
I trusted them and they broke it

Hypnosis works if you can imagine something that isn't real. It's using your imagination in a vivid way. Nobody is too smart to be hypnotized any more than you could be too smart to enjoy a movie or book. It's a cooperative process, & the subject can always snap themselves out

Hypnotized people are currently "influenced" people, and therefore can't give consent to any additional play. We stick to what we agreed to, or we stop early. There is no "I'm feeling good, let's take this farther." Sure-- maybe tomorrow after you've gotten some sleep.

Because a great deal of hypnosis is based on belief, it becomes possible for bad actors to erode the agency of the subject. If you BELIEVE you can't resist, it becomes true. This can be fixed with education, with suggestion, & with practice
