Nine months after the fierce storms of Jun 29, 2024, Val Bavona in Southern Switzerland is still reeling. Roads, water pipes, and entire sections of the landscape remain damaged, and restoring them could cost up to CHF20M ($22.6M). 🏔️💔

Cycling accidents in Switzerland have surged in the past decade, with 84% caused by loss of control – often due to distraction from phones and headphones. 📱🎧 Between 2018 and 2022, 26k cycling accidents were recorded, up from 17k in 2008-12.

At 10:31pm on Sunday, the Beznau 2 reactor in Switzerland automatically shut down due to a failed connection to the 220-kilovolt power grid. 🌍⚡ This triggered non-radioactive water vapor to escape through the roof of the turbine house, but rest assured, everything remained safe. #NuclearPower #Axpo

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is gearing up for a major expansion! 🚀 A €130M upgrade is on the way, set to double the terminal space and seriously level up the passenger experience.

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has announced it's canceling all flights from Geneva & Zurich to Heathrow today following a massive fire at a nearby power substation. 🚫✈️

Big policy shift from the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM): Switzerland can now deport certain single Afghan men whose asylum applications have been rejected. 🇨🇭➡️🇦🇫

Until now, deportations to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan were considered unreasonable.

Women, families, and minors won't be deported.

Switzerland's central bank just did it again – the SNB has cut its key interest rate by another 25 basis points, bringing it down to 0.25%. 📉💰

This marks the fifth straight rate cut after reductions in Mar, Jun, and Sep 2024 (each by 25 bps) and a big 50bps slash last Dec. Inflation has cooled off.

Switzerland just pumped the brakes on increasing federal aid to Ukraine. Today, the House of Representatives rejected two motions (111-73, with 4 abstentions) that would have tied aid to GDP – bringing it in line with other nations and potentially unlocking CHF4.8B ($5.4B) in humanitarian support.
