I just want to dump all the photos I took this morning on you. I’ll try to pace myself, but I’m excited to share them. You should buy them as holiday gifts and then I’ll make more. Everyone wins.

Besides being on a slope and feeling things crawling up my leg and the sticky foot pedal, this was a slick way of making while the kiln is firing.

Hoping this giant makes it to and through an October wood firing.

Pot 12-complete with pool of glass. This one was front and center to all the heat and ash in NH Potters Guild’s anagama.

After a few hundred more of these fermentation crocks, I may have them down.

The start to oval bakers. They begin round and bottomless. Relieved to sink into studio work. For me, focused studio time requires holding the world at arm’s length. Also relieved that sap is beginning to flow.

I know I can make these better. I just don’t know how yet.

We are building a wood kiln in June, with help from #woodfire1@bsky.social and a bunch of other wonderful people. It was no small feat to dig out the hard brick we’ve been collecting for three years to count and sort, but here it is, under the kiln shed roof that was its own feat of steep learning.

Last week @susanlirakis came to take photographs. As awkward as I mostly felt, it is really nice to have these—a person behind pots. Thank you, Susan!

Today 2021: Teaching goes online; cue my longing for the grounding work of making pots.

Pot 7-from the 2021 arch preoccupation. They still appear, but in less overt ways now.

Pot 6-Until this little lidder, I did not quite understand how to make pots that reflect my values, something @woodfire1.bsky.social encouraged me to do when he mentored me in 2022. In this one, spontaneity meets disciplined and playful meets studied: things I value. Whoop whoop!

Pot 5-wood fired in 2022 with my cohort from @cohorts.bsky.social and mentor @woodfire1.bsky.social. Building a wood kiln this June with this same pack!

It took a minute and lots of iterations to figure out these footed plates. They look the most elegant to me right at the tipping point of slumping. A worthwhile edge to keep traveling. Good stuff on a snowy morning. Grounding as I learn about bird flu and Eric Adams in Trump’s pocket.
