Here’s a record that meant a lot to me in 2025 both in message and music. I’m going to take a page out of someone else’s rule book and post a link to a better review

Jane Austen used 'however' at the beginning of a sentence, and so can you.

Hi folks, we’ll take a little mid season break from the debut albums poll, as it’s that time of year when we traditionally vote on the best album of the current year, so it’s time for #5albums25 Voting for this one will commence on Monday 29th December at 7pm. Use the hashtag for recommendations 👍

Word of the day, should you be feeling a little huffish, is ‘apanthropy’ (18th century): a love of solitude and the desire to be away from other people.

And now for something completely different…
Salome With The Head of John The Baptist (1507-9) Andre Solario - who doesn’t love a little horror at Christmas? I love the position of the hand of the executioner (he wants no part of it) and the look on Salome’s face

No Rockefeller tree for me - the Met’s tree is the best thing about Christmas. 20 feet tall, 20 cherubs, 60 Angels floating above a scene depicting 18th century Neapolitan society with brilliant embroidery and details. More coming from the Met if you need to mute me now 😉
