Can anyone help me identify this shrub? It was in my Vale of York, UK, garden when we moved in. It will happily grow to 10ft. 🌱

Censor, purge, defund: how Trump is following the authoritarian playbook on science and universities
I have mapped 35 of the Trump administration's attacks on science and universities to the authoritarian playbook - and consider what it means for attacks still to come

Back somewhere I haven't visited since I was a teenager, for a @mrcnihrtmrp.bsky.social DTP training session. Where am I? #PhDSky

How are people feeling about travelling long distance to US-organised academic confs this year? Got a poster accepted for the Society for Clinical Trials one; it's in Vancouver but will there be too few people there to justify that huge chunk of my training budget? #AcademicSky #PhDSky

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

Depressed at still being encouraged to live tweet from academic events, even by organisations that are, at least nominally, on BlueSky. Is there nothing Musk can do that will put you off?! #PhDSky #AcademicSky @nihr.bsky.social

Passed by the historic (and still subscription) The Leeds Library today (www.theleedslibrary.org.uk). Their choice of word for today's sign was most apposite.

Taking advantage of it not being the tourist season to take in the #WilliamMorris wallpaper exhibition at York (UK) art gallery. 10/10 would recommend. www.yorkartgallery.org.uk/exhibition/t...

Is this two cats with one head, or one cat with two bodies? Or did I just misread the IKEA manual again?

Earlier this year, I received news that fake peer reviews were allegedly being submitted impersonating me and approximately six others

I shared my story with Science to, hopefully, reduce the chance of this kind of breach happening again

#perProMo this week has been a mad alternation of meetings and writing my annual progress report. But behind the scenes, the #ADHD brain ferrets have been processing. I look forward to finding out what they've concluded once the report is in. #PhDSky

To other PhD students who may find it helpful to know: I'm not working on a publication. I'm not organizing a conference, or preparing a presentation. I don't have a side project (or 2). I focus on my dissertation, & cannot do more. And that's ok. #PhDLife #AcademicSky @academic-chatter.bsky.social

Two abstracts done and submitted despite going back into the cycle of 3 days of migraine per week. And I didn't even stay up half the night for the one whose deadline was on eastern time. Go me. #perProMo #PhDSky

Who should you nominate as reviewers for your manuscript? After a long chat with a post-grad it appears that there's a lot of misguided advice out there. Thread 👇

I tend to write reasonably concise but long things, because I err on the side of over-completeness. Writing conference abstracts is thus not my happy place. I have to write two on the same work, one 500 words and one 250 (ouch!). Tips? #PhDSky #AcWri

I dithered about this morning & then took one of my new, stronger ferret pills. 14.5 hours (and 12.5 hours of hyperfocussed work) I am finally feeling like my brain might consider turning off. Oh well, if I'm dead tomorrow I built up some lieu time. And made my code faster. #PhDSky #perProMo #adhd

Done my first conference presentation, at #ICTMC. I never have to do my first one again! Plus a bonus - had some lovely feedback from a qualitative researcher about my attempt to explain statistical methodology to a largely qualitative audience. #PhDSky
