Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people.

Be strong, be brave, be fearless.
You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy.

We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.

One way to commemorate the end of the third year of Russia’s senseless, criminal war against Ukraine is to read the work of Ukrainians about it. Vika did not live to see the publication of this book, since she was killed by a Russian missile. But we can see her in her words.

Stephen Fry: “I’m deeply worried by the darkening shadow that’s going over the world, a shadow that we have to call fascism”

Laura Kuenssberg: “You would use that word?”

Stephen Fry: “Oh absolutely. It’s a cult of power; and power only speaks to power”

This month in 1845, Taras Shevchenko was near death from fever when he wrote a poem that has come to be known as the "Testament". In translation its rhythm evokes the hymn "Amazing Grace":

For me in my Ukraine
Atop a mound of forebears brave,
The steppe my last domain

Makes me sad re-reading this amazing letter from ex-Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox sent to high school seniors in 1994 after they asked him “What should Americans learn from Watergate?” 20 years later in ‘94.

His answer is remarkable—unfortunately things didn’t work out so well in 2024.
