We are a network of research groups across the University of Sussex, Brighton & Sussex Medical School and University Hospitals Sussex NHS trust investigating the causes of blood cancers, and developing new therapeutic strategies to improve patient survival.
We have a fully-funded 4-year #PhDproject with @whatchamacaulay.bsky.social at the Earlham Institute and @tiagocluis.bsky.social at Imperial looking at niche cell–cell communication.

Congratulations @rhysmorganlab.bsky.social in @biochembiomeduos.bsky.social for obtaining funding from @bloodcanceruk.bsky.social to target abnormal cell signalling mechanisms in AML.
This is now 1 of 6 active Blood Cancer UK grants in our growing network at Sussex. 👊 🔬🧬🥼🩸
Our new project headed by Dr Wagstaff begins Oct 1st developing new ways to target oncogenic β-catenin 👊

Final year PhD student Aimilia Vareli in @bsmsmedschool.bsky.social of @mitchell.science lab publishes her doctoral studies in @springernature.com
#CellDeathDisease showing inhibition of NFkB signalling increases BH3 mimetic sensitivity in the lymphoma microenvironment.
nature.com/articles/s41...
The lymphoma microenvironment stops BH3-mimetics working.
In vitro/vivo/silico, we find inhibition of NFκB makes BH3-mimetics great again.🧵

Dr @ejayawant.bsky.social now working at the Pepper group in @bsmsmedschool.bsky.social review the state of play in computational modelling of B-cell lymphomas, led by @mitchell.science and now out at @biochemsoc.bsky.social Transactions.
We review:
- how computational biology is helping us understand lymphoma,
- how machine learning and cell simulations make sense of vast amounts of data,
- how models can personalise treatments to each person with lymphoma.
