A town councilman is someone I went to middle and high school with. He does these videos from all the town events, and it's like - do you really think you're going to be president, John? We're in our forties. You're in insurance. Revel in your mediocrity.

This. This was the formative event of my generation & our entire politics in 🇺🇸. The structural break after which we were no longer a full democracy, when 5 Wizards In Robes decided they were a super-legislature & counting all the actual votes didn’t matter. The rest has been 25 years of commentary.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.

I really believe the NFL season should be longer. One game a week still? Fine. Go for an extra month or two. Have more than one starting quarterback. Sure, have a QB1 but play your QB2 once a month. Need more players? Make teams bigger. It’s not like football teams can’t afford it.

The WaPo Opinion's editorial about Kim Kardashian - That was written by The Onion, right? That can't be a real piece in the WaPo. A person at the WaPo could not have read that and went, "Yeah, let's publish this." If they did, I've slipped into an alternate universe where the WaPo is a rag mag.

The president is destroying the same government services the red dots use, and they still voted red. I know the shift was great, but most still voted for the guy who robbed them and stole their neighbors to keep robbing them and stealing their neighbors. It’s so frustrating.
If you ever wondered what GOP gerrymandering looks like in red states with blue cities, I present:

Every single study that gives cash to homeless folks dramatically reduces homelessness and is staggeringly less costly than incarceration and institutionalization.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Lololol! You know what helped children? The 2031 tax credit that lifted half of the children in poverty out of it. Republicans refused to extend them and let them fall back in it

Today is #WorldAIDSDay

With Lenacapavir or LEN, a new drug WHO recommends to protect people at risk of #HIV instead of taking daily pills, people can now get injections every 6 months.

At the time where funding for HIV is limited, this new drug could mean fewer new infections & more lives saved.
