Contrary to what Whole Foods claims, the scarcity of eggs is not due to strict animal welfare standards but a new strain of bird flu devastating flocks. The cramped indoor conditions facilitate the rapid spread of the flu, leading to entire flocks being culled when one bird is infected.

I'm celebrating this #Thanksgiving with a kinder #vegan meal, given the abject horrors we subject food animals to. 'Today’s turkeys have bodies so misshapen that they usually cannot reproduce on their own. They are the result of artificial insemination which is a procedure that they resist.'
For decades now, every Thanksgiving, U.S. Presidents have fallen for a cheap publicity ploy orchestrated by factory farm turkey producers.

I'm delighted that my OpEd: "What a Lame Duck President Could Do for Lame Turkeys" has appeared in the New York Times.
Opinion | President Biden Should End This Turkey Pardoning Nonsense
President Biden should cancel the Thanksgiving tradition of pardoning a turkey.

Should we care about intelligence, or 'educability'?

'An educable mind, he writes, can learn from books, lectures, conversations, experiences, and Zen koans—from anything, really—and notice when relevant aspects of almost forgotten knowledge reveal themselves.'

"All sensations—hunger, feeling pain, seeing red, falling in love—are the result of physiological states that an LLM simply doesn’t have."
