New offshore oil drilling in California is never going to happen. Period. My statement:

Federal cuts to Medicaid and food assistance are hitting San Diego families hard, and the fallout is immediate. We cannot wait for Washington to fix what it broke. We moved fast with a partnership that frees 13M dollars to keep food access, behavioral health, and senior support from collapsing.

If the Trump administration is waiting for an emergency, this is it.

Millions of families can’t buy groceries.
Children are going to bed hungry.
A federal court had to order Trump to release the funds.

The emergency isn’t just hunger — it’s Trump’s inability to govern.
November 5, 2025 at 10:13 PM
The federal shutdown has dragged on for 28 days because House Republicans refuse to pass a budget. Now nearly 400,000 San Diegans risk losing CalFresh on Nov 1.

Families shouldn’t go hungry because of political games. Call 2-1-1 or visit 211sandiego.org for help.

Governments across our region are coming together to make CLEAR that our public buildings are not launching grounds for warrantless federal enforcement efforts.

This week we passed the CLEAR ordinance and took a stand for San Diegans.

Following city’s lead, county advances plan for tougher limits on where immigration agents are allowed
The proposed ordinance will be written based on one the San Diego City Council unanimously approved Monday and then brought back for supervisors to consider next month.

San Diego County condemns political violence. The killing of Charlie Kirk is another unacceptable and deadly consequence of the erosion of our politics and humanity. It is up to all of us to change the tone and tenor of public life in this country.

With federal protections ending September 30, hundreds of kids could be forced to face deportation hearings without a lawyer. Today, San Diego said not here.

We expanded our Immigrant Legal Defense Program so no child in our community stands before a judge alone.
September 9, 2025 at 7:33 PM
Donald Trump fired the lawyers for unaccompanied kids in immigration court. Now they’re expected to face judges alone.

Unreasonable. Unjust. Un-American.

That’s why I proposed No Child Alone in Court — to make sure San Diego shows up where Washington failed.
September 4, 2025 at 12:03 AM
Our community needs safety and trust, not parents disappeared while dropping their kids off at school.

Chemical giants knew PFAS were toxic, and now they’re paying billions in damages.

As states like New Jersey hold polluters accountable, San Diego is moving to cut PFAS out of County purchasing, protecting our water, our health, and our future.

Small business owners deserve clarity, not chaos.

We launched San Diego County’s Know Your Rights training to ensure local businesses are equipped to respond to immigration enforcement ,legally and safely.

Because due process is not optional. It’s a right.

When ICE agents wear masks, plain clothes, and drive unmarked cars, it opens the door for criminals to impersonate them, committing robberies, assaults, and even kidnappings. Law enforcement transparency is crucial. Accountability protects everyone.

H.R. 1 slashed retroactive Medi-Cal coverage so now if you get sick before the paperwork clears, you could be stuck with the bill.

That’s why here in San Diego County , we’ve approved a proactive alert system: to warn families before they are blindsided.

Got sick before the government finished your paperwork? Too bad.

H.R. 1 slashed Medi-Cal’s retroactive coverage from 3 months to 1.

Now, thousands of low-income seniors will be stuck with medical bills they can’t afford.

It’s wrong. We’re fighting back.

100,000 empty stomachs. 400,000 prescriptions unfilled.

Parents, veterans, older adults, and young people are bracing for impact from H.R. 1.

Your County government is working to shield you but the threat is real, and the clock is ticking.
August 1, 2025 at 10:44 PM
While others waited, we acted because people’s lives are at stake.

San Diego is launching a first-of-its-kind alert system to notify people before their food or health benefits are cut.

We are not sitting back.

What's better than bold announcements and big headlines? Action.

In April the @EPA committed to complete the construction at the South Bay Wastewater Treatment plant in 100 days. San Diegans will be watching closely, eager for clean water and real accountability.
July 31, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Nearly 400,000 San Diegans are at risk of losing Medi-Cal and CalFresh due to federal cuts + new work rules.

This isn’t policy, it’s people.

We’re pushing a rapid response plan to reach folks before they lose care or food.

No one should fall through the cracks.

Stories like these make clear why it is so important that everyone have access to an attorney.

To get basic due process and a fair day in court requires an advocate by your side.

This is why we’re fighting for the Immigrant Legal Defense Program and to protect due process for all.

We're proud to welcome Supervisor Paloma Aguirre to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors! With her swearing-in, District One gains a dedicated champion in the fight for a more just, equitable, and resilient San Diego County. Let’s get to work.

When a child shows up to school without breakfast, the whole class falls behind.

When a neighbor loses their health insurance, they skip care, and the local clinic cuts staff.

One person’s loss becomes everyone’s burden - because our shared prosperity is built on shared responsibility.

Trump’s spending bill is now law, and San Diego will feel the impact.
