I didn't know about this paper and I'm really enjoying reading it! Highly recommend to other physics people.
Dec 5 - Microcausality in Curved Space-Time

arxiv.org/abs/0709.1483

Causality is a central principle in physics, but how it manifests itself in quantum mechanical observables can be opaque. This paper provides a careful treatment of (some of) what it does and does not imply.

Scientist types as #DnD classes:

Fighter: The best way to approach any problem is to do an experiment first and ask questions later (assuming there is any question left to ask). Very high volume of fire, but needs a constant stream of money to pay for fancier and fancier equipment.

#PhysicsFactlet:
The "Ashcroft/Mermin Project"
I will try to (likely very slowly) make one or more visualization per chapter of "Solid State Physics" by Ashcroft and Mermin, with the hope that they will be useful to people teaching/learning solid state Physics.

Do we have enough stringy/hep-th people here to have our own starter pack? Has someone already made one? #physics #hepth #stringtheory #qft

Really fed up with the bird app. I hope I can find once again the wonderful people that I used to follow there and have wonderful conversations here. If anyone has any pointers about seeing more physics, maths, books, and photography content please let me know. Kind of new here...

Good piece by Ted Chiang on the difficulties of AI making real art. My view is that LLMs can absolutely be "creative" in a sense -- they are good at remix and pastiche, which are creative acts. But... (cont)

Why A.I. Isn’t Going to Make Art
To create a novel or a painting, an artist makes choices that are fundamentally alien to artificial intelligence.
