Lime Kiln, pen and ink, 8”x 11”, Begun live on site and completed in the studio. Lime Kilns have been used the world over for millennia. By baking limestone slabs the stone changes from calcium carbonate, to calcium oxide - or quick lime; a key component in mortar for buildings. #pleinairdrawing

This drawing was inspired by 16th century Dutch paintings called ‘tronies’. Unlike traditional portraits which focused on likeness, the aim of tronies was highlighting strong human emotion and deep psychological experiences.

Looking out the doors of a church, at a war monument and our nation’s flag in the distance.
