Good points here, but I think one is missing. As a reader whose brain hates WIPs & avoids them, I have to wait. Posting WIPs in fests seems to be the new normal & I gotta say, I don't love it. But if I'm gonna *finish* reading your fic? I can't start until it's all there. 🤷🏻♀️ Brains gonna brain, yo.
fests engagement has just been on a steady decline 😖 I talked about this a lot last year and there are a lot of reasons that play into it but one thing is that people often forget that fests are meant to be a way to discover new writers/concepts that you haven’t read before. Instead, what tends to+
altho idk what role that plays in fest and challenge fics since they get published with the date i opened the draft and won’t actually appear in searches till i edit the date on reveal date.
