New study tests a core idea in crime pattern theory: do burglars strike along the paths they travel between familiar places—or only near their activity nodes?
Analysing 450 burglaries in The Hague, @toby-davies.bsky.social and I show they do both.

🚨 It's been a long time in the making, but I'm happy it's finally out!

Standing on the shoulders of giants, in this preprint we propose an avenue for theoretical development in the field of environmental (cyber)criminology with practical applications for crime analysis.

Don't know yet, but I happen to have booked an Airbnb in Exarchia, real cool vibe neighborhood. We walked up the hill in our local park. Great view!

We made it. Great trip. Highly recommended

Bus from Patras to Kiato where we get on the train for the last leg of the journey to Athens

Night two will be at this beast

We're now on this high-speed train, which the Dutch and Belgians might recognize as the Fyra train. It only operated a few months and was sent back to Italy due to teething problems. Here it runs smoothly so far.

We spent the night in Milan. Booked a hotel close to the train station, because we leave early today. Only one train, Milan to Bari.

Next leg: Brussels-Cologne

Beginning my journey to Athens for #ESC / #Eurocrim! Tonight I head to Brussels, where my brother will join me for the rest of the trip, just like in past years. A tradition we truly cherish.

Writing good prompts is an important new skill we should teach our students (and ourselves)

"je" was generiek bedoeld.

Ik hoorde het ook. Je kunt het vervelend vinden, een miskenning zelfs, maar dit is niet de eerste keer dat zoiets gebeurt.
Misschien toch ook nuttig als we allemaal eens in de spiegel kijken.

According to Heliyon, an open access journal from Cell Press @cp-heliyon.bsky.social, I am an expert on ovarian cancer. My wife can attest I know very little about ovaries, and I am trying to avoid cancer too.

Forgot to mention that the paper belongs to the special issue "Calling the Police: Theoretical Insights and Practical Implications" guest-edited by David Buil-Gil and @drlaurahuey.bsky.social

Excited to share that our PhD candidate Roos Jansen just got her first paper published in Crime Science.
It's on satisfaction with police among crime-reporting victims.
