My watch allows for the essential functions of a mobile phone. I find myself having to lug around a large brick in my pocket just for these multitude of apps that aren't even a joy using.
‘The tyranny of apps’: those without smartphones are unfairly penalised, say campaigners
From loyalty cards, to restaurant meal deals or simply parking your car – it is harder and harder to get by without signing up to a multitude of apps

1) Donkey Kong Country 2
2) Advance Wars 2
3) F-Zero : Maximum Velocity

All much fun.
Now that it's almost the new year, I wanted to make my annual thread of the games I beat in 2024! As always, these are screenshots I took while playing

3. Dave the Diver
4. Ys Origin

Curious if anyone has found a command-line implementation of the "Evaluator-Optimizer Workflow" outlined by Anthropic in this repo using @simonwillison.net's llm tool? github.com/anthropics/a...

Sometimes, I don't have time to take in an entire episode of #TWiV, especially during the holiday season. I still don't like missing out on Daniel Griffin's clinical updates, so I use a command like `youtube-transcript www.youtube.com/watch/?v\=f_... | llm --system "Please summarize"` those weeks.

I won't be changing my profile picture with Luigi and it does not imply any stance that I may have regarding current events.

I haven't completely stopped using generic search engines, but my usage is easily down 90%+ from 10 years ago.
I'm going to fetch a sandwich from the icebook, crank up the Victrola to listen to some music, and then Google for some information.

In Mexico City, I found food warning labels helpful.
As NYC health commissioner and CDC director, I raised alarms about the harms of unhealthy food high in salt and sugar—and fought for creative, lifesaving solutions.

Dr. Tom Farley and I write about the potential for progress and the powerful obstacles in the way.

Excited to share our latest paper on optimizing genetic distance thresholds for inferring HIV-1 transmission networks. Our heuristic scoring approach adapts to diverse epidemics with an aim of improving identification of clusters & aiding public health interventions.

I monitor my VO2 max with my watch. It was steadily increasing over time, but I got COVID in January and it dropped 6 points (!) immediately. Despite regular exercise, it has remained stubbornly low the past 6 weeks.

Just beat Donkey Kong Country 2 over the past few days (not 102%) at 39. While not as difficult as Ghosts n Goblins, which was agonizing to beat in 2010, the emotional response to beating a game I had trouble with as a child inspires me to take on new challenges at a time it's easy to doubt oneself.

Interestingly, the GBA was the first major video game console since the 3DO to use an ARM-based processor as its main CPU. The 3DO retailed for $699 in 1993.
