We've heard concerning things about the Social Security Administration lately, so I decided to check for myself.

SSA says Wednesday is the best day to call, so I called then.

Their system told me there would be a two-hour wait time, told me to call back, and then just hung up.

About to have a real time test of the media

If this kind of breach happened under Biden, it would be *the* story for days

No high-ranking official — especially the president — could make public appearances without facing tough questions

Let’s see if that happens now

I have to say: Chuck Schumer is a weak man and a fool. This was the one cudgel Dems had. Now it's up to the courts which we new from the beginning were at best going to slow some things down. There's 18 hours left to somehow bring additional pressure to bear. It will be really hard to do that.

Hakeem Jeffries on @maddow.msnbc.com tonight

• Despite being prodded by Maddow, doesn’t show he understands the importance of the moment.

• Like most Ds in Congress, overexplains in political speak. Ds need to understand the value of the soundbite and distilled populist messaging.

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment.

One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

If only we had a body, one with democratic legitimacy and powers conferred by a Constitution, that had the authority to overrule a president who seeks to impose arbitrary tariffs and deport people who fled here to escape oppression.

It could be called the Congress of the United States.

To my representatives in Congress

👉 Tariffs/trade war w/ Canada
👉 Elon Musk data breach
👉 Shutting down foreign aid

There needs to be a clear, united opposition and communication strategy to the dismantling of democracy. And you need to be unafraid to take that message to right-wing media outlets.
