Returning from a few days away, hearing the #NHS planning guidance abandons a number of key areas that will stall, denude or plain stop progress in #mentalhealth #improvement, #prevention and #parity. Demoralising that the progress made in last 25 years is now at risk.

@theguardian.com reporting on study showing continued rise in #child #mentalhealth admissions over the last 10 years. We need to focus on both the capacity and response but we should also ask what’s driving and causing this rise and how to address it.

I’ve mixed feelings about the announcement of the commission on #socialcare Louise Casey is undoubtedly the right person to lead it, but another three years to wait for a sector struggling to survive. I guess hopefulness is my overriding sense.

It is profoundly disturbing that #pronerestraint continues to be used in the #mentalhealth system, despite plans to stop
it. I fail to understand how we find ourselves here again making the argument for its cessation.

We are relieved that Health Secretary Wes Streeting has confirmed the continuation of the Mental Health Investment Standard (MHIS) today. The MHIS ensures that local mental health services in England receive essential, protected funding so that millions of people access support.

@wesstreetingmp.bsky.social has pledged to keep the #mentalhealth #investment standard” which protects spending on mental healthcare, but has revealed 2025-26 planning rules will not be confirmed until next year. This welcome news and in part due to #VSCE leaders campaigning @assocmhp.bsky.social
