We have now done a formal submission of comments on the current Roaring Meg Planning Application. There is still time for individuals to make comments and we encourage people to object. Full details of our comment and how to submit your own are on the link: www.cyclinguk.org/group/post/r...

We spoke at the Planning Committee to voice our concerns on the plans for North Herts College in the town centre. The Committee shared our concerns and has required indoor cycle parking to be provided. We'll continue to campaign for safe and convenient cycling routes to the town centre! 💪

Proposals in the new planning application for the Roaring Meg retail park would force people cycling to dismount and walk when they leave the Monkswood Way cycleway (a popular entrance/exit). We're encouraging our network to object to this application to show that cycling access must be improved!

This brand new video shows how London has been transformed for cycling. With the regeneration of our town centre, many people are once again moving out of London to Stevenage. These "new pioneers" have much higher expectations of what good cycling infrastructure is like thanks to this experience!
📺 Treat yourself to a highly enjoyable 10 minutes!

(Also loving the cameo from our Hackney group👋)

Around 50 cyclists enjoyed perfect weather for our Midsummer Cycling for ALL last weekend. Our route was entirely traffic-free - incl. the new Gresley Way cycleway linking Fairlands Way and Six Hills Way. This new cycleway has been made possible thanks to active campaigning from our volunteers 💪🙏

#ShowYourStripes The first image is an iconic Stevenage underpass infrastructure chosen to recognise the vision of the New Town planners. The scarf shows UK temperature data. The second image shows the urgency of the climate emergency, action is needed to make our infrastructure fit for the future.

Last night we held our first social for people who cycle everyday journeys and who would like to connect with more local people! A great meetup in the pub; lovely to see new faces too! Going forward we will hold monthly socials on the third Wednesday. Keep an eye out for our teddy and join us 💚

UPDATE: Beryl replied to our card! They're upgrading the e-bike fleet and are aiming to return by June 30th (this is a target). Huge thanks to everyone who signed at Stevenage Day to show how much we miss the bikes, including local MP @kevinbonavia.bsky.social We'll keep you posted. #GetWellBeryl 💙🚲

More Good News! For at least 3 years, the underpass under the entrance to the lcon building has had no lighting. We have been campaigning to Hill & @hertscc.bsky.social for years. We'll continue to campaign for permanent lights but the temporary fix of motion sensitive LED lights is very welcome 🙏

Good News! After a long absence, there are cycle racks outside the main entrance of big Tesco in town again! There are now 12, more than before. We had explained to the Council that people using the racks needed easy, direct access from the cycleway and convenient parking near the store entrance.

We've delivered our Get Well Soon card for the #Beryl bikes in Stevenage today. The bikes have been away for a maintenance update and are missed by the local community. We collected signatures and stories at Stevenage Day from people sharing their love for Beryl and their hope for a speedy return!

What a day! Stevenage Day is always the highlight of the year. Thank you @kevinbonavia.bsky.social and Cllr Nazmin Chowdhury, mayor of Stevenage for stopping by our stall 🙏 We handed out 120+ sunflowers, collected 30+ surveys and got volunteers for our new residents' panel. An excellent day! ☀️☺️

We asked to speak at the Planning and Development Committee meeting yesterday, which discussed the proposed public art works. We are pleased that a good discussion ensued. There is now clearly an awareness that all users have a responsibility to share with care. Watch our contribution ⬇️

We were delighted to attend the Government's #MHCLG New Towns listening event today to share our experience of #Stevenage as the first new town, while plans are being developed to build more towns. Great to see that the variety of ways people travel were actively recorded! Thanks for the invite 🙏

We have now submitted a comment about the proposed location of a new public artwork sculpture outside the Bus Interchange in #Stevenage Our comment is entirely focused on safety concerns about such a large installation at a busy junction of shared use space 1/3

One of the questions we asked candidates in this week's #Hertfordshire elections referred to our cycleway survey now featured in local news. Only the Greens & TUSC replied. Other parties incl. Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dems & Reform, can still provide a response; as they did in 2023 and 2024!

We love community art, but we have serious concerns about the location of a new sculpture at a key shared use path connecting the bus interchange with #Stevenage town centre. Our campaigners have marked the spot for the proposed position of a new sculpture that is 2.1m high and 1.2m wide. 1/3

We sent questions to all candidates standing in #Stevenage ahead of the @hertscc.bsky.social elections. We received responses from 2 parties but encourage all parties to respond, as they have done in the past, to outline their commitment to #activetravel Read more: www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/h...
