Thank you for another lovely week, Mary!

Today, I'm not going to promote myself. Instead, I wish to promote this hashtag's founder, @chaoticauthor.online, who needs all our love these days. Do check out his works 💝

👀 one of my favourites (from a WIP) is the vampire that skins people in order to “collect” their tattoos… if he’s knocking on my door, I’m in trouble. 🤣

#HorrorWritersChat
QUESTION FOUR

There’s a knock at the door.

Before you can answer it, the door opens and reveals…your favourite character. They are your creation.

Who is visiting you?
Why are they your favourite?
And why are they here, now?

Linger a little longer for the outro & promo #HorrorWritersChat

I’ve had some very random sources of inspiration; a thumbnail to a YouTube video, the outro to a music video, a quote from a movie, the name of a song.

Can’t think of 4 for a single story or WIP, though… 😬

#HorrorWritersChat
QUESTION THREE

The room includes the media that inspires your writing.
Books. Films. Music. Art.

Share four that inspired your last published horror work or your latest horror WIP.

1. A computer with a familiar keyboard. Keep those typos to a minimum having built up some muscle memory with it. ⌨️

2. A drink (maybe alcoholic). It’s important to stay hydrated. 🍺

3. A lock on the door to keep out those pesky distractions. 🤣

#HorrorWritersChat
QUESTION TWO

We stand before your writing area #HorrorWritersChat

Which three tools (apps? Items? objects?) do you find useful when writing?

Are there any you’d recommend to other writers?

The stranger the better...

Hey all! 👋

I’m an on-again-off-again writer of (mostly) body and psychological horror.

My dream writing room would be a big, well-stocked library. No distractions, dimly lit, soft classical music playing, and a big spacious desk with a comfy chair.

#HorrorWritersChat
QUESTION ONE - #HorrorWritersChat

Behind this door is your ideal writing room. 🚪

If money were no object and dreams were reality, this is where you’d write, relax, and conceive of your next great work.

Introduce yourself along with your horror niche, then open the door and describe your space.

How many physical books do you own?

#BookSky 💙📚 #BookCollection

I recently logged all of mine in a spreadsheet (yes, I’m that kind of person), and I was underwhelmed with how few I actually had. I was expecting to be approaching 1k, but I’ve only got 659 and counting.

Thanks Eryn! #HorrorWritersChat

I’d like to give a shoutout to @tlbodine.bsky.social

These Kids Are Not Alright is a great collection of short stories. Some are fun, some are creepy, and some are downright difficult to read (for a father of a three year old).

I think AI on its own is pretty harmless (it’s just a glorified chain of “if” statements), however, humanity’s belligerent want to use it, even when it’s to our own detriment, will be our inevitable downfall.

#HorrorWritersChat
Nearly there, #HorrorWritersChat bods. Hang around for the outro when you can throw out all the links. But not yet, my darlings, not yet.
We live in a world that we saw loom in scifi, the rise of AI, but not yet the Terminator... drones, smart devices, Alexa...
So what do you think brings the fear?
September 17, 2025 at 7:19 PM
So far I’ve mainly relied on more atmospheric horror; darkness, and the danger of the unknown, as well as internalised body horror.

#HorrorWritersChat
Catching up, somewhat.
Tech is tech. We forget that wheels, fountains, cars, were tech once, something new and exciting. Our brains making something new.
What's scarier, really? An old tv? An old setting? Nostalgia?
Is tech our new religion?

I don’t have anything published, but I’m working on the outlines for a series of short stories where the overarching theme is *exactly* that. 👀

#HorrorWritersChat
Q2, #HorrorWritersChat! You lot were chatting so much I ran over. Hmpf.
Anyway you know the theme. Hit me with it.
September 17, 2025 at 6:24 PM
Hey all! 👋

I’m Stephen, and I write body and psychological horror.

Not really tech, but as someone who is easily distracted, I have to be sitting in a quiet room, listening to an ambient soundtrack in order to write for a decent chunk of time.

#HorrorWritersChat
Dum, Dum, Dum!!!!!!!!!! Assemble, #HorrorWritersChat writers. Assemble, and give us your shit for Q1.
Your name, your number, but not your links. You know the game.
Leave that for the end. Right? Right.

I’ve often thought about starting up a throwaway account just to list all the random crap I pull out of the washing machine / tumble dryer.

Today I was reminded again, finding an 8.

We don’t have any keyboards missing keys…

Crisp Autumn Leaves

Yesterday I thrived,
All green, luscious, and alive,
Now I’m on the floor.

I’m all brown and red,
Surrounded by other leaves,
Please don’t stand on me.

#HorrorWritersChat
Question 4 (last question but stick around in ten minutes for the outro):

Horror short story or poem time! Write something (contained to a single post) with the term "crisp autumn leaves"

Quote post and include the tag #HorrorWritersChat so others can find you.

The ultimate dream is to be able to live off of what I make writing horror (or writing in general), freeing me up to write even more and spend more time with the family.

#HorrorWritersChat
Question 3:

Share a horror writing related dream (interpret this any way you like!)

Quote post and include the tag #HorrorWritersChat so others can find you.

“AITA: I don’t see the problem with it, I just collect tattoos. Been doing it for millennia. Don’t want me to skin you and drink your blood? Don’t desecrate your body with tattoos. Simple.”

#HorrorWritersChat

(Disclaimer: author is heavily tattooed lol)
Question 2:

Write a post in the form of a Reddit "Am I the asshole?" question from one of your antagonist's perspectives.

Quote post and include the tag #HorrorWritersChat so others can find you.

No links or covers. Save the self-promo for the outro.

Hey, I’m Stephen, I’ve published some short horror stories, but I’m also working on a thriller and a fantasy series, too.

One of my WIPs… Two detectives hunt a religious vampire who skins their victims, collecting their tattoos.

#HorrorWritersChat
Here we go with question 1:

Introduce yourself: tell us who you are, what you write and describe a current WIP (or published work if you don't have a WIP) badly.

Quote post and include the tag #HorrorWritersChat so others can find you.

The idea for my short story “Itch” was spawned when I scratched my foot a little vigorously and made it bleed. I then dialled that up a notch (or two), et voilà, the story was born.

What are the origin stories of your books?

Currently making my way through A Song Of Ice And Fire, so haven’t read too many indies recently (I don’t think @georgerrmartinshat.bsky.social counts as an indie lol).

I’ve sung @michelleheller.bsky.social’s praises before, but that’s not going to stop me doing it again.
#HorrorWritersChat question 4 (last question but stick around in ten minutes for the outro):

It’s a difficult time for indie authors. Tell us about an indie horror author and their book that you read and enjoyed that others should read this autumn.

Do not miss @michelleheller.bsky.social 's Worst Summer of My Life. It's got monsters, mayhem, body horror, and one-liners that made me snort laugh.

So, do it for you, take a trip to Weinervana and make this the "Best" Worst Summer.
