Massive thanks to @premierinn Thurso who still had the coat I’d left behind, a week after me staying there. Thanks especially to front of house young woman who trekked upstairs to Lost and Found and looked! Brilliant ! Thank you! #GreatService

Have read it - you’re right - good book but a re- read might be timely…
With all these Franco-British discussions about state-building in the Near East, now’s the time to read (or re-read) this by @jamesbarr.bsky.social. Not only a brilliant book about the tangled history of the region, but one if the best non-fiction titles. dauntbooks.co.uk/shop/books/a...

Oh yes - we loved our trip to Rotherham in 2022 for the France vs Iceland game on the hottest day ever - had great chat with Icelandic fans saying “Is it always as hot as this?”
Top team who brought it all to Rotherham though!

This is brilliant - congratulations on your envoy role - and great that the Lewis chessmen will not be far away from their Celtic cousins in Brittany when they visit Normandy.
In return the British Museum will lend some of their most precious treasures including the Sutton Hoo hoard and some Lewis chessmen to museums in Caen and Rouen. These loans will coincide with the 1000th anniversary of William the Conqueror’s birth. A moment to celebrate x-Channel cultural links!

At long last. The PM has finally accepted that ‘youth mobility is not freedom of movement.’ A visa-based scheme is not a concession to the EU but a huge opportunity for young people on both sides of the Channel to live, study, work and love in another culture - in the way previous generations have!

The prime minister said the scheme would not herald a return to free movement

Strongly supportive of the comments of Cllr Chris Read. Entirely sane and balanced and few people have done more than him to change organisations and attitudes in reality - not just talk but action.
We had a very civil cross-party discussion about the merits or otherwise of a national inquiry at council this week. I understand my comments have already upset some people. But the polarisation is a barrier to safety and somehow it’s got to change. www.thestar.co.uk/news/politic...

Staying with my sons tonight. Their board game collection is remarkably tidy 🙂

Fabulous to have Prof Brian Cox with us at Gulliver’s Valley for the annual North Star Science School this afternoon, talking to hundreds and hundreds of school students about life, the universe and everything.

Very sad to see the death of John Prescott. True working class hero. Was once part of small dinner with him and watched him talk personally to every waiter and waitress before engaging with any dinner guest.
