I had a wonderful opportunity to speak with the Students Demand Action chapter at the University of Michigan. Our conversation focused on the essential gun safety measures that we need to advance in Mi. Students Demand Action is a student-led branch of Everytown for Gun Safety.

Happy 189th birthday, Michigan! Known as the Great Lakes State, every location in Michigan is within 6 miles of a body of water & no more than 85 miles from one of the Great Lakes. In comparison to Detroit, Mi. is still a youngster —the city is set to mark its impressive 325th anniversary this July.

Rosedale Reads is hosting its 3rd Annual Black History Month Discussion, featuring Detroit historian & author Ken Coleman. Mr. Coleman is a former senior editor at the Michigan Chronicle, serves as a segment host for American Black Journal on Detroit Public Television & has written 4 books.

As 1.5 million Michiganders are struggling to put food on the table, while my Republican colleagues are prioritizing a tax break for folks who can afford gym & country club memberships.
I introduced a bill substitute to extend the same tax deduction for groceries and prescription drugs.

My colleague & I, Rep. Luke Meerman, testified before the House Families and Vets Committee in support of our bipartisan bills, HBs 4696-97. This legislation would eliminate the requirement for relatives caring for foster youth to be licensed foster parents in order to qualify for assistance.

The Detroit Caucus hosted a media roundtable with stakeholders 2 discuss House Republicans yanking back $645 million in funding for Michiganders with little discussion or input. By pulling back this funding, they effectively ripped away multi-year investments in health, safety & economic opportunity
