A friend told me about @donorschoose.bsky.social and I think (1) it's so satisfying to remove all the bureaucracy between teachers/students and donors,(2) it's good for teachers, students AND their schools, (3) can I post my NIH proposals on there? #science #academicsky #womeninSTEM

I called my college roommate to wish her a happy birthday and we made the delightful discovery - thanks to her observation - that the word "Scooby Doo" has great mouth feel. Try it!
Plus this is the first time I've ever used a GIF so #langsky #words

The Bionic Breast Project is funded by the National Cancer Institute at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. If you value biomedical research and it's life-saving, economy-driving impact, I urge you to let your elected officials know. #cancer #breast #medsky #science

I have a new (younger) colleague who I am just getting to know and see frequently. Our conversations have surfaced new vocabulary words for us both.
After several weeks of working together:
Me: "You are a gregarious imp."
Him: "What's an imp?"
A week later, he sent me this:

In the prologue of my edition of Ellison's Invisible Man, he contrasts "unvisible" vs "invisible." Invisible is what we can't see because of the physical limitations of our eyes. "Unvisible" - my scientific intrigue - is what we choose not to see or overlook due to bias. #science #booksky

I'm new to @bsky.app so is this a place anyone wants to talk about how much garlic you use when the recipe says a half a clove? In the culinary language I speak, that means at least 4 large cloves. Why would anyone ever only use a half of a clove of garlic?
