Sheep farmers: look out for Haemonchus (Barber’s Pole Worm). It’s a blood-feeding parasite that causes anaemia, bottle-jaw + sudden deaths, not diarrhoea.
High WECs (10,000+ epg) are common.
Use WEC + FAMACHA for targeted treatment – avoid whole-group worming.
Quarantine new stock.

With forage shortages in much of the UK, many suckler cows are on higher straw or forage crop diets. 🐄
Check body condition early and consider metabolic profiling soon after housing to spot protein or mineral shortfalls before calving.

We’ve seen more Long Bone Deformity (LBD) cases in spring-born calves — linked to Mn deficiency in cows mid-pregnancy.
Now’s the time to act:
🩸Check Mn levels
🥣Limit silage to 75%
🚫Avoid wet pit silages
💊Use high-Mn minerals or injectables
