A treatise about American public education re: Grading

There has been a move at the elementary level in recent years to replace competitive, percentage based grading with standards based grading. This move is an extremely powerful one as it replaces one and done grading with a process based system.

Wild rice bowl with sous vide pork marinated in a tomatillo sauce (4 hours at 140, then flash seared), a reduced sauce made from the marinade, tomatoes, and avocados.

In a few days we will begin selling dried tettnanger hoping Spokane, WA. There will be limited supplies in 1 oz packages of leaf hops for $1.70 each. They are one of the four Noble Hops and contain balanced floral and herbal aromas with some spiciness

Kids decided to have dinner at a friend’s house so that meant I could make a meal just for my wife and I. This is pan seared Pollock over a wild rice blend of my design. Served with summer squash in a Sofrito over a hatch chili and Guajillo pepper romesco.

It’s been a while since I did an embroidery update. This is my latest work based on eight Japanese tenets for a good life paired with a Nordic near-equivalent. This is ikigai (purpose/ lykke), kintsugi (repair with gold/lagom), and shinrin-yoku (forest bathing, friluftsliv).

Tea service tonight! Scottish scones with butter and homemade jam (strawberry-rhubarb, basil-peach, blueberry), open face cucumber sandwiches with Alderwood smoked salt, and home smoked chicken with tomatoes and a tarragon yogurt sauce (tarragon from my garden).

I’m a huge fan of dropout and know what a great heart @samreich.bsky.social has. I’m amazed at what my student’s overcome to be at school and the perseverance they show.
