The narrow failure of Senate Bill 686, the bill that would require fair compensation for Big Tech’s AI "plagiarism machine," is bad news for Oregonians. We’re proud of our coalition’s hard work and progress toward achieving a solution.

A bunch of my pals won journalism awards for being very smart and excellent at journalism. Being a journalist is very hard as it is, being excellent at it has got to be like 5-10x harder at least. Great job being smart and excellent pals!

Our work at the #orleg paid off: Committee members rewrote this bill to get rid of a provision giving lawyers nearly six weeks to draft bad-faith demands and threaten lawsuits.
We've been hard at work at the #orleg, including by marshaling opposition last week to this proposal that could chill public service journalism by giving people and their lawyers more time to make frivolous demands to retract news articles. Read more from @opb.org:
