Witch hunts didn’t disappear...they modernized.

What used to be fire is now policy. What used to be accusation is now “process.”

Trial by fire🔥, now quarterly reviewed. https://f.mtr.cool/jlwmpftfkj

Sometimes we're excited for new books, and sometimes its "new to us" books. This year one of the Original Spinsters is committed to reading The Earthsea Cycle series by Ursula K. Le Guin. https://f.mtr.cool/tknlocnhaf

A Wizard of Earthsea
Check out A Wizard of Earthsea - <p><strong>The first novel of Ursula K. Le Guin's must-read Books of Earthsea. </strong></p><p>Ged was the greatest sorcerer in Earthsea, but in his youth he was the reckless Sparrowhawk. In his hunger for power and knowledge, he tampered with long-held secrets and loosed a terrible shadow upon the world.</p><p>This is the tumultuous tale of his testing, how he mastered the mighty words of power, tamed an ancient dragon, and crossed death's threshold to restore the balance.</p><p>With stories as perennial and universally beloved as The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings&#8212;but also unlike anything but themselves&#8212;Ursula K. Le Guin&#8217;s Earthsea novels are some of the most acclaimed and awarded works in literature. They have received accolades such as the National Book Award, a Newbery Honor, the Nebula Award, and many more honors, commemorating their enduring place in the hearts and minds of readers and the literary world alike.</p><p>Join the millions of fantasy readers who have explored these lands. As <em>The Guardian</em> put it: "Ursula Le Guin's world of Earthsea is a tangled skein of tiny islands cast on a vast sea. The islands' names pull at my heart like no others: Roke, Perilane, Osskil . . ."</p><p>The Books of Earthsea include:</p><ul><li ><em>A Wizard of Earthsea</em></li><li ><em>The Tombs of Atuan</em></li><li ><em>The Farthest Shore</em></li><li ><em>Tehanu</em></li><li ><em>Tales from Earthsea</em></li><li ><em>The Other Wind</em></li></ul> by Ursula K. With so much hype on Heated Rivalry, a few of the Original Spinsters are going to do a weekly📺 watch.

Before starting the show though, at least one of them is going to check out the book 📖 to see if "The book was better"

Before algorithms, people had… activities.

For hobbies that don’t involve doomscrolling or finishing an entire series in three nights, Victorians understood the assignment.

We brought receipts. 👉 https://f.mtr.cool/syqjmsxinw

Before carols were polite and holidays were tidy, winter belonged to the strange and the brave.

Mari Lwyd roamed Welsh villages, daring households to match her wit. Lose the rhyme battle, lose the snacks. Win… and still lose the snacks, probably.

Would you let them in?

Vultures:
✨ ecological superheroes
✨ death ≠ evil
✨ misunderstood icons

Long before a certain wizard franchise poisoned the term “Death Eater,” vultures were keeping the world from becoming a biohazard.

🎞️ Movies?

Not that anybody asked, but If you accumulated all the flora, fauna, and metal that your True Love gives you each day in the “Twelve Days of Christmas” song, you would own 12 Trees, 40 Gold Rings, 140 Humans, and 185 Birds of 6 different species.

In one ancient Irish fable, the robin is called the Fire Bringer, saving fire for early humans after a wolf tried to extinguish it. The bird fanned the dying embers back to life, scorching its breast in the process and bringing fire back to the world.

Jack Frost doesn’t care what day it is. He shows up anyway.

On windows. On breath.❄️

Then he leaves without explaining himself.

As legends should.✨

We pulled a Christmas tarot card for you this morning and got The Star ⭐

AKA: hope after the mess.
After the tower fell.
After “well… now what?”

No hustle, no manifesting spreadsheets — just quiet reassurance.
Gentle healing.
Faith that doesn’t shout.

What are you still hoping for, even softly?

Cozy movies are a spectrum... Some of them explode. Some of them sing. Some of them simply let women leave town.

The common thread? Letting your brain unclench.

We made a guide. https://f.mtr.cool/cbhgtdiamy

What do you do when a triceratops laughs at you for your panic, anxiety, and the quiet fear of living in the US right now?

Write an intimate poem where hope exists, but clarity feels just out of reach.

Ancient people: The Yule Goat represents life, abundance, and the turning of the year. 🐐
Modern people: What if… fire? 🔥

The Gävle Goat is folklore’s most persistent social experiment.

Results inconclusive.
Repeating annually.

Winter folklore really said: “What if we taught morals… but scarier?”

Nothing needs fixing tonight. Nothing needs proving.

The longest night reminds us that growth happens underground, quietly, without witnesses.

The light is on its way back. You don’t need to chase it. 🕯️✨

We’re big believers in gifts that come from time, creativity, and care. This little list is a reminder that joy doesn’t have to be expensive to be meaningful.

Apparently your font is radicalizing America.

✅ Calibri? Too inclusive.
✅ Serifs? Elitist.
✅ Sans serif? Communist, probably.

Honestly? Mood.

So the Dept of Ed’s solution is…to make it harder to become a nurse? Make it make sense. We’ll wait.
