🧶 I'm really into quick spins at the moment. It's like going back to spinning my first handspun yarns but without the frustrations. I'm just letting the fibre do its thing.

Colourful yarn that's been spun by me. The yarn is chunky and uneven but very colourful. Below, and above the yarn is a braid of the unspun roving I used (I dyed it myself), and above the braid at the top is unbraided rambouillet wool in the same colourway. The colours are a mix of orange, pink, blue, yellow, amber, and grey. The colourway is called City Puddles.

I really like this method of placing the roving down in narrow folds. I like the concentrated pooling of dye where the fibre bends

A stainless steel gastronom pan full of dyed Punta Arenas wool. The long lengths of wool top (roving) have been placed in a narrow "zigzag" vertically down the pan, and there are 4 lengths side by side. The wool has been dyed in a gradient of plum, purple, dark blue, mid blue, aqua, and green. The lid of the pan has been placed behind the pan and leans over at an angle and reflects the colours. A hand dyed braid of Punta Arenas wool top on a white backdrop. The braid has been twisted into a circle. It's a gradient of orange, pink, plum, blue, aqua, green, and mustard. To help keep the fibre tidy, it's been braided by chain stitching by hand. These fibres are for hand spinners and textile artists.

I've just placed my wool top in my pans differently to how I normally would - usually I hold 4 ends together and zig zag them across the whole pan - today, I wiggled each one down the length of the pan, so each piece only took up a 4th of the space. Can you see the wiggles?

There are lighter and darker saturation sections, and undyed parts, due to the way they were dyed rolled up. As the dye doesn't reach all the way into the middle, one end of the blanks will have more saturation than the other because of this. I think this will work up incredibly interestingly...! I'd love to keep one for myself so I can see how it'll work up in something, but these babies must earn their keep, so none for me!

Back in January, I decided, for the sake of my aching body, that I needed to stop carding.
Anyway, it's April now, baby, and I'm my own worst enemy.

I've been back on the carder!

These batts were dyed AFTER the carding, so the fibres will be a bit ruffled. I'm excited to try these!🧶 #artbatts
Hand dyed batts. In the shot, there are 7 slim batts that are hanging off a pole (out of shot). The batts look like top, but they've been blended by me and are full of lumpy silk noil. The batts on the left are a gradient of pink, peach, mustard and pale olive, and the batts on the right are a gradient of pale plum, lavender, pale blue, and sage, with little splashes of gold. We don't usually dye batts after the fibre has been carded, so they look a little ruffled.

I made this video last year. The dyes used are my leftover acid dyes. It's a great way to use up any bits still in the jars. The resulting braids are called "Leftovers". It's nice to throw random colours in and get unusual results 🧶

One thing I love about dyeing wool in a small pan is I never really know how the colours are behaving at the bottom of the pan. I'll have an idea, but there's always a little surprise where the colours have mixed 🧶

Became a danger-knitter by winding two (identical weight/length but different sized) skeins of kidsilk lace at the same time with one swift and one winder

I had 3 skeins of an ooak colourway on kidsilk that I dyed last year, and I dyed another 3 skeins in a very pale teal/duck egg so I could hold them double. I've knitted a lot of mohair held double with either 4ply or standard lace, but I've never knitted two strands of mohair. I love how it feels.
From top to bottom: A skein of hand dyed pale duck egg blue mohair and silk lace, a skein of hand dyed mohair silk lace dyed a pale duck egg blue with little splashes of lavender, deep pink, fern green, and gold. In the middle is my current knitting project - the pattern is by Petite Knit - it's the Fortune sweater (but without the clover details because I don't want them). The neck has been knitted, and the increases in the yoke are taking shape. The overall colour of the sweater is a hazy pale teal duck egg blue with subtle areas of gold, pink, lavender, and green. Under my knitting are two balls of yarn that I've wound from the skeins above. A closer look at my knitting showing the folded neckline (i didn't do any ribbing) and the stitches. It's a very pretty dreamy duck egg blue with Heather patches of golden, pink, and green
