When people think of gulls they think of the French fry thieves on the beach - those are herring gulls probably. Not every gull is a thief, some are passionate about capelin like the black-legged kittiwakes. They nest on cliffs & rarely steal fries. But if you have a bucket of fish... 👀

This #watercolor is just an ode to a moment in time - an appreciation for the Egyptian vulture and all they do.

#Vultures are cool. But they aren’t the bird of prey people are calling their favorites or get excited about seeing - unless they mistake them for a different bird as they soar past.

'It sounded kind of crazy': How ripples in the high atmosphere warned scientists of a tsunami in real time
Tsunamis are notoriously difficult to spot on the open ocean as they race towards shore. But in the summer of 2025, scientists watched one unfold as it happened.

This Cinereous vulture I met is about 5 and the zoo is hoping this is the year he becomes a father. If successful with his partner, their offspring will contribute to reintroduction efforts

He may just look like just another vulture dreaming about dead meat but he is a symbol for hope.

"Whether returning lynx to Ireland, removing Yellowstone cutthroat trout from westslope cutthroat waters or restoring free-roaming bison to the Great Plains, refaunation and rewilding tend to raise a ruckus."

A little ode to the vulture family for #InternationalVultureAwarenessday. Vultures tend to be misunderstood - but they are the clean up crew of our world - and they have amazing skills. Some eat bone, some can smell dead meat miles away and unfortunately, many of them are endangered.
