It's no secret that Nova Scotia (and other parts of Canada) have experienced drought conditions this summer. But these three photos showed just how bad it's been. It was a heartbreaking sight to see my local marsh so dry that it's void of water and cracking. #drought #novascotia #climatechange

This week, our planet hit the highest CO2 levels ever directly recorded: 430 parts per million.

It’s a stark reminder of the urgent need for action to reduce emissions and build a cleaner economy ⬇️

CO2 levels just broke another record. Here's what that means | CBC News
For 67 years, the observatory on Hawaii's Mauna Loa volcano has been taking these measurements daily  — tracking the invisible gas that is building up in our atmosphere and changing life on Earth.

When I first started out, I often called it “rage knitting” because it allowed me to work through the frustration of climate denial. Nowadays, this project helps me feel grounded and focused on the positive. Slow, steady, and meaningful. #knittherapy #climatedenial #artivism

Today is #worldbiodiversityday 🌎

Biodiversity is what keeps our planet thriving—from the tiniest fungi to massive forests. Climate change, pollution & habitat loss are putting it all at risk. Protecting nature means protecting ourselves.

The first blanket I knit was for 2023. I can point to the polar vortex and leap year! That blew my mind - seeing data I lived through, captured in yarn. #knitthestory #artivism

Climate change is overwhelming. Knitting isn’t. This project helps me - and maybe others - cope with climate grief, one row at a time. #climategrief #creativecoping

It’s #worldbeeday! 🐝

Bees pollinate our food, flowers, and forests - but they’re under threat. Support them by planting native flowers, avoiding pesticides, and letting your lawn go wild. A healthy planet needs buzzing bees.

Make sure to thank your friendly neighbourhood bees today!

Knitting daily temperatures started as a personal project. Now it’s how I see climate change. It’s not just warmer days - it’s colours, shifts, and stories in every stitch. #knitdata #climatechange #artivism

Did you know allergy season is getting longer in Canada?

Climate change means warmer temps, longer plant growing seasons, and way more pollen. This means more sneezing and itchy eyes - even for folks who never had allergies before.

This project reminds me: big change takes time. Just like climate action, knitting a data blanket is all about showing up daily - even when it’s slow. #consistencycounts #artivism

Tomorrow is Ride Your Bike to Work Day! Will you be participating ?

Riding your bike to work = fewer emissions + better mood + a chance to lead by example.
Give it a try tomorrow! You never know, you might love it.

Art doesn’t solve climate change, but it can start conversations. My blankets are a softer way in - a gentler entry into some tough truths. #climateconversation #artforsocialchange #climateartivism

Every blanket is built the same way: one row, one day, one temperature. But the end result? A year of climate data in full colour. #climatedata #knitting #artivism

Yesterday, it was announced that two moratoriums related to groundfish and seafood processing licences would be lifted. While opening up or expanding new economic opportunities is needed, is *this* what we want to do? (insert increasingly higher pitched nervous voice) #nspoli #climatechange
Nova Scotia to lift licensing moratorium for buyers and processors in seafood sector | CBC News
Fisheries Minister Kent Smith says opening the seafood sector to new entrants will help drive Nova Scotia's economy as processors look to diversify their markets.

There’s something powerful about using local data. These blankets aren’t abstract - they show what’s happening right here in Nova Scotia. And that makes it harder to look away. #novascotiaclimate #localdata #climateconnection #artivism

Mental health tip: try walking or biking instead of driving when you can.
You’ll move your body, clear your head, and reduce your impact on the planet.
And who knows—you might inspire someone else to do the same.

I never planned to become a climate artist. I just wanted to learn how to knit. But now? Every blanket I make tells a climate story rooted in my community. #knittingjourney #climateinspired #localart #kentville #novascotia

When people say climate change is hard to understand, I get it. That’s why I knit it into blankets. Each row = one day of temperature in Kentville, Nova Scotia. The patterns speak for themselves. #climateart #temperatureblanket #artivism #novascotia

Spent part of the morning enjoying the post-rain furry of Borden Brook Falls while also observing plenty of signs of spring. It's so great to be back on trails that were coated with ice just a few months ago! #naturetherapy #annapolisvalleywaterfalls

Today is #WorldMigratoryBirdDay. Millions of birds are on the move - crossing skies, seas, and seasons. Their journey depends on healthy habitats. Let’s make sure they have safe places to land.

I had two goals in mind when selecting my colour palette:

1. Colours match the temperature. Ex. Cooler colours = colder temperatures/Warmer colours = warmer temperatures.

2. Using local-ish yarn with a big enough supply to keep it consistent. I use Briggs and Little from New Brunswick!
