Reminder: Your garden is a place of rest, not just work. Take a moment this weekend to just sit in it. Notice the sounds, the smells, the small details. You've created a beautiful space. Enjoy it. That's the real harvest. ✨

What's your favorite thing about having a fall garden? For me, it's the crisp air, fewer pests, and the amazing flavor of greens after a light frost. Let's get excited for the season ahead!

Worms are your best friends. Seeing lots of earthworms in your soil is a great sign of a healthy garden ecosystem. They aerate the soil and their castings are incredible fertilizer. So if you see one, give it a little 'thank you'. 🪱

Don't forget about beets! You can eat both the root and the delicious, chard-like leaves ('beet greens'). They're a fantastic two-in-one crop for the fall garden. I'm planting 'Detroit Dark Red' today. What's your go-to variety?

When direct sowing seeds, make sure your soil is well-hydrated BEFORE you plant. Water the bed deeply the day before. This ensures the seeds have moisture to start with and prevents you from accidentally washing them away with a strong stream of water.

What's a plant you've always been a little scared to grow? For a long time, mine was artichokes (and I was right, they are tough here!). Let's share our 'challenge plants'. Maybe we can find some tips for each other.

Time for the final big harvest of summer herbs like basil. I'm making a huge batch of pesto to freeze in ice cube trays. It's like having a little taste of summer ready to go all winter long. How do you preserve your basil?

Let's build a simple low tunnel/hoop house for our fall greens. All you need is some PVC pipe, rebar, and insect netting or frost cloth. It extends your growing season significantly. Who wants to see a quick DIY video on this?

Last call for ordering seed garlic! 🧄 You'll plant it in October/November, but the best varieties sell out NOW. Ordering from a reputable grower gives you much better results than planting garlic from the grocery store. Get your orders in, mi gente!

Cabbage worms are coming for your fall brassicas. One of the best organic defenses is a lightweight insect netting or row cover, installed right after you plant. It physically blocks the white moths from laying their eggs. Prevention is key!

Hardening off your seedlings is a crucial step you can't skip. It's the process of slowly acclimating your indoor-grown baby plants to the harsh outdoor conditions. Start with 1 hour of shade, then gradually increase the time and sun exposure over a week.

Let's talk about planting leafy greens: spinach, arugula, lettuces. They love the cooler weather of fall. I'm sowing a mix of them in a wide row today. Pro-tip: lettuce seeds need light to germinate, so just barely cover them with soil.

Pruning your peppers! 🌶️ For a great fall harvest, give your pepper plants a significant 'haircut' right now. Prune off any dead branches and thin out the inside of the plant to improve airflow. It'll encourage a new flush of growth.

My seed-starting mix recipe: 1 part peat moss/coco coir, 1 part compost, and 1 part perlite/vermiculite. It's light, holds moisture, and has nutrients. Making your own is cheaper and better than most store-bought bags. What's in your mix?

Don't forget the flowers! 🌸 Zinnias, marigolds, and cosmos planted now will give you beautiful blooms through the fall. They provide nectar for pollinators which helps your fall veggie patch, too. It's a win-win.

What's one thing you learned from your summer garden that you'll do differently in the fall? I learned I definitely need to use shade cloth earlier in the season. Let's share our lessons so we can all grow better. 🤓

Did your summer tomatoes have issues with blossom end rot? That's a calcium deficiency. Before you plant your fall crops in that spot, amend the soil with a good source of calcium like crushed eggshells (long-term) or bone meal (faster).

Radishes are the ultimate crop for instant gratification. They can go from seed to harvest in under 30 days! I'm planting a row of them today between my slower-growing carrots. Great for filling in gaps. What's your favorite radish variety?

As you clear out old plants, you might uncover pests like squash bugs or stink bugs. Make sure to clean up all the debris where they might hide and lay eggs for next year. A clean garden now means fewer pests in the spring. ¡A limpiar!

Time to transplant the broccoli and cauliflower seedlings I started indoors! 👶🌱 A few tips: do it in the evening to reduce transplant shock, water them in well, and provide some temporary shade for a few days if it's going to be brutal.

Let's see those fall garden plans! 📝 Are you a planner who draws everything out, or do you just wing it and plant where it feels right? I'm a bit of both. Show me your sketches or your beautifully chaotic gardens!

Saying 'gracias y adiós' to the summer squash plants today. The vine borers won the final round. 😅 It's sad to pull plants, but it opens up precious space for fall greens. It's all part of the cycle. #realgardening

The secret to germinating carrot seeds when it's still warm? Keep them consistently moist. My trick: lay a wooden board over the row after watering. It traps moisture and keeps the soil cool. Lift it daily to check for sprouts. ✨
