I started out aiming for the traditional route too, so I really understand that pull. Along the way I ended up learning a lot about what actually works for me and where I get the most momentum right now.

Totally agree. it really does stretch your brain 😄
And honestly, being “not published yet” is such a common place to be. The fact that you’re writing consistently already puts you ahead.

Are you hoping to go the traditional route when it’s ready, or are you still feeling out your options?

That says a lot about your process. good test-reader feedback can make a massive difference. 600 pages is no small feat. Do you mind continuing in the chat?

That’s a very honest take and honestly, a healthy one. The timelines around agents can be brutal, even when the work is strong.

I went through a similar mental tug-of-war when I was deciding which path to focus on, and it really helped me to talk it through rather than guess in isolation.

That kind of determination matters a lot. querying after a break takes real grit.

Did you make any changes to the manuscript or query package this time around, or are you testing it with a fresh set of agents?

That’s exciting though, having a main project and its sequel already planned is huge. Fantasy especially takes a lot of long-game commitment.

Are you aiming for traditional publishing, or are you leaning more toward self-publishing when it’s ready?

Knocked my goal out early this week! Submitted my first #query letter for the Night of Fallen Gods.

Now to get back to work on book 2 before the end of the week (more likely month).

Being a fanatic of killer first lines, my love for them sometimes stuns me as a writer. Here are my thoughts on how to write an effective first line of a novel. Hope it will help you get over that blank page syndrome! #writingcommunity #writesky medium.com/write-a-cata...
