A slice of city life… nowadays its mainly about birds.

The last time I saw Flaco was when he returned to his tree after visiting the Lower Eastside. Nov 17, 2023.
That summer, when birdwatching got boring I would visit Flaco. He kept me interested in my new hobby. Miss you.

Coots have fun feet, they remind me of edamame bean pods.

I finally know what the geese are cackling about:
“Who knows how to build a campfire?”
.
“A campfire”
.
.
“Anyone?”

Four cygnets in small water by Boathouse.
A park regular approached them to “talk”.
“Where’s your Pop?”
Being NYC kids the cygnets said “No thanks”; two flew off to right, the other two flew left.

Three of the five cygnets that were born during the summer. They are eating food that someone dropped from the bridge.

We stumbled across a young Red-tailed Hawk nonchalantly chasing a squirrel. Afterwards the hawk eyed our group and flew over our heads.

In case you forgot, we wanted to remind you that Social Security has a fraud rate of 0.00625%, which is FAR lower than private sector retirement programs.

This Ruby-crowned Kinglet was moving so slow that I was able to grab a nice video! The bird found a sap rich tree and is not leaving.

Red-winged blackbirds on ice. A mixed group, the females were so striking that I thought I found a new species for me. 😂

I had to be quiet and keep my distance. Twice the birds flew off when people were walking by or having loud conversations.

This young female Wood Duck tugs at my heart. I believe this is her first winter and she hasn't figured out that she should be at Prospect Park lake. Every time I see her she calls for other Wood Ducks. Maybe she can be relocated?

Support bird authors!

- Ryan Goldberg‘s “Bird City”

- Ryan Mandelbaum’s “Wild NYC”

- Tom Stephenson’s “Warbler Guide”. The Warbler Guide is also available as an App.

All three are well written and very informative about birding.
