I told another actress that I was going to audition for the lead in the stage-play version of Stephen King's Misery, and to my horror she gave the usual thespian good-luck wish, "Break a leg." I replied "Please don't say that when it's Misery," and she burst out laughing.

The acting part of my creative new year is definitely coming together. I got invited to audition for the lead in an upcoming play! I'm up against some pretty strong competition and don't expect to get the role, but the invitation alone has done a lot for my confidence going forward.

My resolution for 2024 is quite vague: Pursue more creative activities. I plan to get back to writing fiction. I'd like to get back into playing music, and take some voice and language lessons. I'd like to make more videos, and I'd like to do more acting. It's a full agenda for the coming year!

I suppose I should mention that, despite a number of interruptions from major life events this year, I've stumbled through making another video. This one comes from thoughts inspired by a reading of Arlie Russell Hochschild's "Strangers in Their Own Land".
