In light of Gavi buzz, very worth re-reading the Development Today interview w/ @ckyobutungi.bsky.social @sojiadeyi.bsky.social
I'm a critic of both GAVI & RFK Jr. Suddenly ending GAVI overnight will cause a lot of damage, but just b/c millions of people around the globe depend on this deeply unaccountable group for vaccine access is not a reason for it to exist ad infinitum.

Time for Sunset Strategy:
Wealthy countries and @gatesfoundation.bsky.social should publicly state whether they are for/ against sunsetting GAVI & The Global Fund over an explicit transition period.

“Bold leadership is needed. This is an opportunity for Africa to build resilient arrangements for self-sufficient financing for healthcare.” Clear & forward-looking piece, thanks! @ckyobutungi.bsky.social, @seyeabimbola.bsky.social @ Dr. Ebere Okereke.
I'm delighted to have co-authored this critical paper alongside other African global health experts (@seyeabimbola.bsky.social and Dr Ebere Okereke) on how Africa's health systems can adapt and build resilience following the abrupt USAID cuts.

Is @GAVIalliance.bsky.social forever? Gavi should replenish for exit - and publish its “Sunset Strategy” to wind down by 2030. @devex.bsky.social @genevahealthfiles.bsky.social @lancetgh.bsky.social

#GlobalHealth must address 4 tensions: Platitudes vs rigorous overhaul of @who.int; Rejecting vs venerating the “Lusaka Agenda”; Subsidiarity vs hypercentralization; & Coddling vs honesty on debt service.

Quite the earthquake in #globalhealth geopolitics and #financing. The perils of dependence on #foreignaid are clear. Like the man said, "Only when the tide goes out do you discover who has been swimming naked..."

This is so insightful. Opportunities to make progress amidst the “..constant tension between the scientifically illiterate and the politically clueless…..”

This is a reality check. @who.int should prioritize within its means and curb its appetite for mission creep beyond its comparative advantage in normative/ technical leadership, e.g., seeking to create ‘WHO Global Pandemic Supply Chain & Logistics Network.’
