Had an amazing time leading one of the volcano workshops for #OxploreFestival ! We explored the ingredients needed for an explosive eruption and got students familiar with Earth Sciences as a subject
Representatives from the Department spent this week at Bradford College taking part in the #OxploreFestival

Year 7 and 8 students from across the city of Bradford were invited to take part in workshops and exhibition activities 💡

Great talk by @sofiadellasala.bsky.social looking at hydrothermal records at Santorini in the @iavceisubmarine.bsky.social session. Convincing evidence of vigorous hydrothermal activity in the past preceding eruptions and a great demonstration of why we should look at hydrothermal records.

The @ukri.org HYDROMOX cruise has come to an end. What a mammoth project @isobelyeo.bsky.social pulled together, I am so grateful to be part of the team that has successfully explored the hydrothermal systems at Santorini and Kolumbo and I can't wait for the science that will come of it!

Recovering our final OBEM! We’ve deployed and recovered 67 instruments on this expedition and, while you never put anything you’re not willing to lose in the sea, it’s very nice to bring everything home. Special thanks to the crew for their support with operations. @ukri.org @noc.ac.uk

One of the best sunsets yet aboard the RRS Discovery. Only a little over a week left of this research expedition!

Saw my first hydrothermal chimney today at Kolumbo Submarine volcano as part of the @ukri.org HYDROMOX project led by @isobelyeo.bsky.social, loved seeing what I have been reading about for the last 2 years with my own eyes!!

On International Women’s Day I’d like to take the opportunity to highlight women’s contributions to this project and marine science. This expedition couldn’t run without our geophysicists, geologists, ROV pilots and crew, many of whom are women. They’re inspirational. @noc.ac.uk

My first ever time working with an ROV! So exciting to see the seafloor of the caldera
ROV is in the water and deploying seismometers to measure fluid flow and earthquakes for the @ukri.org @noc.ac.uk HYDROMOX project. Worked with this ROV on my first expedition in 2008. Still find driving around on the seafloor thrilling.

First core on deck during the HYDROMOX expedition in the Santorini Caldera!! Was amazing to understand how the samples go from the seafloor to the lab bench @mikeaclare.bsky.social

Expedition 398 E&O Officer Susan just published a book on the amazing cores we drilled in and around Santorini.
It's great for anyone (layperson to expert) who wants to learn about these stunning cores.

Great 24-hours deploying the geophysical equipment that will collect the seismic and electromagnetic data inside and outside the Santorini caldera. This information will help us to map hydrothermal fluid flow and earthquakes for the @noc.ac.uk @ukri.org funded HYDROMOX project. Photo: Dan Bourne

I am on my first ever fieldwork expedition! My PhD focuses on the hydrothermal system in Santorini, working with @davidmpyle.bsky.social. We have lots of exciting operations on HYDROMOX @ukri.org that will gives us a better insight into Santorini's caldera seafloor
Excited to be offshore to see the first seafloor instruments being deployed as part of the @ukrio.bsky.social expedition offshore Santorini as part of the HYDROMOX project led by @isobelyeo.bsky.social @noc.ac.uk
