According the Plutarch, Caesar was captured by Cilician pirates in 75 BC on his to Greece to further study. While captured they informed him that they were going to ransom him for 20 talents (that being a large vase filled with silver), he insisted that he was worth at least 50.

Herodotus' account on the Ionian Revolt of 499 BC he mentioned the 'famous tattooed head story' which is when Histiaeus send a slave with a message on the back of his head as to not get caught while he was detained in Susa by King Darius. His plan worked and the slave's hair had grown back.
