I goofed and didn't finish this yet, but I did write 1800 words today

I wanted to treat reformation not as this "hehe, I'm back!" sorta deal, and more like this...beautiful event. To really give it some weight.

And now, Raigengrau is here to defile that beauty. >;3

Death.

A cessation of existence. And the instinct to avoid it at all costs.

An instinct that is buried so deep within all lifeforms, that it’s written into their very DNA.

A concept that you didn’t have to worry too much about, with your ability to reform after any form of death.

Blessed with the gift of being a micro that can reform, others would often ask prying questions.

“What’s it like to die?”
“Is there an afterlife?”
“Is there a train station? A river?”
“Can you say ‘Hi’ to my late-husband for me, next time you die?”
“Do they have video games in the afterlife? Cuz, I still haven’t finished Dragon Quest VII on the Playstation.”

Typically, you’d kindly wave off these types of questions. The last thing you want to do is make any statement that would challenge one’s perception of death and the so-called “Afterlife”. You’ve had some pretty bad experiences, after all, with some rather overzealous folks.

That, and you weren’t quite sure what other reforming micros experience. For all you knew, your own experience could be quite unique to you, and only you.

After all, the process of reformation felt strangely...beautiful.

An ember, previously snuffed out, would spark to life within the void.

No eyes.
No ears.
No thoughts.

Unable to perceive anything, except one singular idea:

“I am here.”

Intricate nerves and neurons would grow from the spark, forming branches and pathways. Signals and synapses would communicate with each other, trying to understand how you came to be in this state. What happened previously. Who you were. Who you are. Who you will become, once again.

Like a blooming flower, the rest of your body would begin to take shape. Bones provided structure for your form. Ropes and cords of sinew and muscle bound themselves together. Orbs in your skull filled with fluid, giving shape to your eyes.

The process was never instantaneous. It would always take a week. Seven days. The amusing irony wasn’t lost on you, considering, according to some faiths, the amount of time the universe was apparently created.

Even if your new flesh needed time to “settle”, nothing ever felt wrong, or out of place. You always were able to perceive that you were still you.

The words always grounded you. No matter what happened, no matter how violently you previously perished, those three words would always be the very basis of your existence:

“I am here”

And yet, you were beginning to doubt these words.

Because no matter how many times you reformed…

HE would be there too.
