Advice for all younger UXers: good design training and books are essential for underpinning your skills and knowledge. But you’ll rarely find a workplace or client that will let you apply them the way they tell you, the way they should be. Make peace with this and make progress.
Forms UX practitioners: what is an optimal pattern for asking for an email address or mobile number, where the user must enter a response to one but it doesn't matter which one? cc @cjforms.bsky.social @adamsilverhq.bsky.social

More damning that threatening, AI is cringe.

To my students at least.

For the last 2+ years I've been teaching a course built around conversations about AI and its implications, and each term I've been surprised at the shift in student attitudes.

It always amazes me just how much money people are prepared to spend to avoid doing the right thing.
Rather like the Dominos accessibility case in US, the amount of money that gets spent on explicitly blocking disabled people from services is extraordinary www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024... That’s £100 million in 1 year to win 136 out of 10,000+ cases. #ableism #SEND
£100m spent in England on failed efforts to block children’s Send support
Exclusive: Councils win just 1.2% of tribunals, as experts see signs provision is becoming a battle with desperate families

I switched for this reason, and received superior UX to boot!
Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before y’all start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.

Raise concerns about Palantir's NHS lock-in and you'll be righteously branded as a privacy freak. Note the dangers of neglecting core capabilities for unproven AI being oversold by Microsoft and others and you're a Luddite or a digital NIMBY.

Does anyone have any articles/research they can refer to me about the need to dial down sales-y content about a product's features and benefits once the user has signed up or installed? i.e. we should switch the focus to onboarding and/or letting them just use it? #ux
