Here's my top 10 games, or games to know me by.

Final Fantasy VI (I like the whole series)
CV SOTN
Skyrim
Mario World
Secret of Mana
Super Metroid
Mass Effect 2
Chrono Trigger/Cross
Sonic 2
Borderlands 2

First few stay the same, the others can alternate and change sometimes.
Anyone else playing Lumines Arise and finding the missions to be... like incredibly difficult? Like they didn't test them with anyone but the people who designed them? Or maybe the Lumines format doesn't work well for challenges like this?

Or am I just terrible?

As a toy collector I've had QC issues here and there, but nothing like this year. I'm sure for reasons apparent that companies are tightening their belts by laying off workers and using cheaper methods to make things. I have 6 figures from different companies currently waiting on replacement parts.

Retro game thought: Making Final Fight a Sega CD game was a big mistake. Sega could have made a 16-meg Genesis/MD game with all the levels, all 3 characters, and two player co-op to one-up the SNES version.

I had fun watching the first Mario movie, but my daughter lighting up when Mario gets his cat power up, among other parts, made it a 10/10. Now she is lighting up to see Rosalina. Look, internet, you can't keep using the same tired, miserably critical parameters to judge everything.

Well, Lumines Arise is fun and addicting like its predecessors. I am a little disappointed with the music, having really liked what they use in the trailer. The game starts with that but there isn't much past that with a similar sound.

It's hard to trust my precious "Metroidvania" genre anymore. It seems like all the devs working on them just want to overly infuse souls like mechanics because that's the hot thing to do right now. I just want exploration with fun combat and good soundtracks.

For all those that say going all digital and stuff like game key cards are inevitable, well I will say this: we are all going to die. It's inevitable. I'm not going to do anything to encourage that or expedite the process.

I always see little Lego guys like that that I want but the catch is you have to buy the $400 set that I have no room for.

You can say you "rolled credits" on any game, but with Once Upon a katamari, you absolutely mean it.

Questionable game design decision #56: One island for Animal Crossing New Horizon PER SWITCH! I never liked when a game only offers one save per account, but one per CONSOLE? Is this secretly why the Switch sold so many?

Physical versions with 100% of the content on the disc/cart/chip.

As a kid I played a lot of co-op Genesis/MD games with friends and siblings, but the one we kept going back to was Toejam & Earl. Why? The randomized stages mode. If they could have added something like that to SoR2, Golden Axe, or even a Sonic game, I would have never stopped playing them.

AAA studios often think a game soundtrack should emulate movies and I couldn't disagree more. Maybe because I grew up with a lot of Japanese games, but I prefer those stronger melodies that keep a game interesting for dozens of hours. I don't just want non descript string instruments here and there.

A couple hours into Trails of the Sky 1st Chapter. So far this is basically the story:

Estelle: I'm trying my best!

Everyone: Estelle you're absolute shite at everything.

Every NPC: Here is a tutorial.
Game menu: Here is that same tutorial again. And Estelle stop being dumb.

Thinking about the new Fantastic Four movie, I feel like any new Star Trek should follow that model- A group that works together well, limited action, and a heavy emphasis on trying to solve things scientifically. Well, in a sci fi way.

So the stock market went up when companies said AI was going to be amazing and replace silly human workers. Then stock market goes down when there's low job numbers. Okay guys. At least the economy is judged by that and not reality.

For the first time in 14 years I have found all the stones of Barenziah in Skyrim. Every year I play Skyrim at least a little in November and try to do something I haven't done before, and this was it this year.

Taking your phone to the bathroom is weird. You use it everywhere, it doesn't need bathroom cooties. Do what I do instead- read dozens of 90s gaming magazines over and over until the end of time.

Damn forgot about this. First day.
Good morning friends 😊

One week until Lumines Arise!!!

Fun fact- there has been more time between now and Skyrim's release then there was time between Skyrim and Final Fantasy 7's release. Why does that matter? It doesn't but it still makes me feel old.

Finished Once Upon a Katamari. I enjoyed it a lot, but my main complaint is that you start in the Edo Japan era, and that is appropriately large with a lot of levels. Unfortunately all the eras after that were tiny. So the game just had less to it than I expected.

What I like about daylight savings is nothing. It's a child's concept of how to fix a problem. "We need more daylight? Let's change the clocks! They'll never know!"

Questionable game mechanic #171: FF15's time travel dog. FF15 has a large open world section and then a series of linear areas after that. You use a time travel dog to go back to the open world section whenever you want. I do appreciate that, but maybe design the game so it all works together?
November 2, 2025 at 11:29 PM
Questionable game design decision #458: Silksong forcing you to use a charm slot to see where you are on the map. Why stop there? Have the map take up a slot. Or your needle! Just an annoying way to add difficulty and suck some fun out of the game.
November 1, 2025 at 10:49 PM
Questionable game design decision #234: Katamari's "roll a cow/bear" levels. In theory, it's fine, but for some reason the devs show a weird level of hatred towards the players by making the levels filled with tricks to make you fail.
